The shades of our lives fall by my side
as I watch our memories flash in my eyes
dullness of the pain never subsides
wanting to reach out but your hand
nor heart are no longer there
and the scent from your long brown hair
no longer lays on your pillow

I have felt pain, many types
but this I embrace
it’s all that’s left
memories coming to mind
wounding me as each shade falls by
wondering what happened
how did such love not be deeper
why wasn’t it nourished and cherished
but such is life
life has it’s own beat
and for some it skips what’s important
some it molds what’s there and
in rare instances things are the way they should be

Someday we’ll move on and the pain will subside
and I hope that friendship will remain
you were and are mein schatz
and I miss how great we were going to be
how great we, we never were
good luck and true happiness to you
as I seek out my own
