It was said, when I was a little boy
That the leaves were yellow and red and orange
because you told me god painted them
and I giggled as any 5 year old would
It was said, that holidays are important
I remember those weekends up at the trailer
The Christmas eves visits late at night
and all those New years eves spent watching the ball drop
It was said, that stories shall pass down
Stories of your father and our town
The love of his daughter Evan and love for his Red Sox
Passing the love and pain, year after year waiting for them to win
It was said, one evening the blackness was back
We all gasped wondering what to do
I got them together and asked them for you
and we journeyed to see your beloved Nomar.
It was said miracles can happen
One October night and the hated rivals finally fell
Another October night and finally the dream comes true
Your beloved team won it all and we all felt it with you
And it was said, one day you would not be here
Today is that day, sad though it may be
Those of us, your friends and your family
Miss you, celebrate you
